GamCare Company Releases New Online Tool to Help Problem Gamblers

3 Mar 2020

GamCare releases GameChange Course, a new digital tool that will help people get help if they think they are having gambling problems. The tool, commissioned by GambleAware, is one that uses the principles of CBT or cognitive behaviour therapy. Those who participate would receive support from a qualified GamCare therapist.

Since launching the software, GamCare observed that a considerable number of people had shown interest in the tool. Generally, these individuals are not receiving any form of treatment for their gambling problems. The tool has a lot of participants because it is easily accessible online; it is convenient, and those who use it can get support at their own pace.

The tool was designed by a Swedish company, which is also an advocate of responsible gambling. The company, Sustainable Interaction, also developed the screening assessment that GamCare uses on its website — the GamTest. This screening test is also being used for GamCare’s clients in the United Kingdom.

GamCare is not limited to helping people through this channel, as it also operates the National Gambling Helpline. It is a hotline people call to get advice if they have gambling problems. They can get treatment online and over the phone, along with their loved ones.

The new online course takes eight weeks to complete. The course is divided into modules that the client can take in their own time. After completing a module, the client is expected to check-in over the phone and speak with a GamCare therapist.

This new tool is just one of the innovations of GamCare to support those who have gambling problems. The organization is constantly in the process of creating new methods to reach out to people who have gambling issues, and a wider range of qualified treatment and support is expected to be released.
