GamCare is a revolutionary charity that is now offering new services in the fight against gambling relapses and disorders. This time they have established new Relapse Prevention Support Groups to help offer an additional service for those that wish to talk about their struggles with relapsing into their addictions. These groups will be available in face-to-face discussions and through an online service, built towards the needs of whoever requires them.
The purpose of these discussions will be to let people who have suffered from gambling disorders have a safe space to let out their fears and anxieties. This came after research from GamCare showed that clients requested such a surface to help the recovery process. These will benefit alongside the other healthcare options that GamCare provides, creating a suitable system for those who wish to remain on the path to recovery. The discussions will be supervised by a regular practitioner who will primarily help establish a support network for those to lean on. Whether they are only starting to show symptoms of gambling-related disorders, or they wish to refresh their treatment to reduce risk of relapse.
The Head of Clinical Services at GamCare, Candice Donn, issued the following statement in regard to gambling relapses new service.
“These new groups aim to provide spaces where a network of peers can come together to have honest and open discussions about their experiences, supporting one another to enhance and maintain their recovery,” she said.
Relying on others is a great way to support one another and gain grounding when it comes to treatment. Sharing their experiences can help give people a better understanding of their disorders and help others find the best ways to work around them.
The first location for these face-to-face talks will be held in London on Tuesdays, from 6pm to 7pm. You can find out more information about the service by calling their official landline or by e-mailing them at London@gamcare.org.uk.
