Canadian Player Wins Record-Breaking Poker Bad Beat Jackpot

6 May 2020

Quebec’s monopoly gambling service, Loto Quebec, disclosed that the operator’s OK Poker game available at Espace-Jeux online gambling site had awarded the highest ever online bad beat jackpot. Players at the table the previous week grabbed a whopping CAD 755,896.

From the information relayed by the management team of the government-run casino, Raymond Desjardins was having fun playing on the bad beat table Poker with his son on the night of April 30th when lady luck came knocking. Desjardins hit his lucky streak after drawing a straight flush on the river, automatically becoming the victor of the game. Desjardin’s losing opponent who preferred to retain his anonymity had quad-tens at hand.

Desjardins collected 25% of the jackpot, which was CAD 188,974, while his worthy opponent, despite being the loser of the match, bagged a massive CAD 377,974, which was the lion’s share of the pot. Six of the other players at the table walked away with CAD 31,495 each, marking the biggest bad beat jackpot ever collected in an online gambling casino in Canada.

Upon winning, Desjardins couldn’t hide his joy, saying; “It was a really happy moment. I can only imagine how my opponent felt when he saw that he’d won the most money with his losing hand!”

This win marks the highest ever bad beat jackpot earned online, and it surpasses last year’s overall record of CAD 676,443, a lumpsum won by players at Casino du Lac-Leamy, a land-based poker room. However, the CAD 1,669,442 payout awarded in April 2019 to nine players at Casino du Montreal still stands as the biggest grand jackpot ever won on a land-based casino.
