Speel Verantwoord, the Dutch online gambling association, has officially approved EGBA’s latest Pan-European code of conduct based on data protection for the online gambling division.
This new EGBA’s Code of Conduct on Online Gambling Data Protection (GRPR) puts long-term data protection values for the online gambling market in Europe. Besides, it is also envisioned to complement and reinforce the sector’s conformity with the GDPR. According to EGBA, the Code of Conduct is also part of broader efforts to reinforce standards in the online gambling scene in line with the GDPR.
Speel Verantwoord is the first national gambling association to sanction the code, and it will now uphold the code to its affiliates and encourage other gambling platforms based in the Netherlands to get in on it. After being approved by the numerous data protection authorities based in Europe, this code will also apply to members of EGBA, including other online gambling companies that will join it. At the same time, all the applications will be closely monitored by an independent third party to increase accountability.
On behalf of the EGBA, their secretary-general Marten Haijer expressed his excitement with the support of Speel Verantwoord for the extra measures they have taken to protect customer data across Europe. He also said they are happy to be one of Europe’s first digital organizations to come up with a code for data protection that’s in accordance with GDPR. Through their Managing Director Peter-Paul De Goeii, Speel Verantwoord, on their side, also applauded EGBA for their revolutionary initiative that will foster a safer online gaming environment.
